November's Sex Blogger of the Month is both girly and cute - and a tough, unapologetic sex-positive feminist. Learn more about her blog - and her best tip for great sex.

Each and every month, Kinkly strives to bring you the best of the best Sex Bloggers. This month, we are featuring GJ from Girly Juice. GJ's sex positive outlook and informative posts are two of the many reasons that GJ is our Sex Blogger of the Month. Here are GJ's answers to Kinkly's 10 questions!

Kinkly: Give us three words that describe your blog.

GJ: Feminine, positive and whimsical!

Kinkly: What inspired you to start the blog?

GJ: After high school, I realized I had no idea what I wanted to study in post-secondary school or what I hoped to end up doing as a career. I panicked and took a year off before going back to school, during which I largely felt aimless and confused. While applying to an endless array of part-time jobs, I stumbled across a job opening at my local feminist sex shop, and applied. While they didn't end up hiring me, I did some research about sex toys in the interim to make sure I'd be well-informed for a potential job interview. All that Googling led me to the discovery of sex toy review blogs. I thought, "Hey, I could do this!" and the rest is history.

Kinkly: What's behind the name?

GJ: "Girly juice" is what an ex of mine used to call my vaginal fluids. The phrase appealed to me as a blog name because it's simultaneously sexy and goofy – exactly the kind of vibe I try to get across in my writing.

Kinkly: Who's your target reader?

GJ: A smart, feminist sex nerd who's invested in her own pleasure and self-improvement in all areas of life, but especially sexually. I'm using female pronouns to describe her because I write about fashion and beauty from time to time, but let's be real: there are folks of all bodies and genders who appreciate lipstick and pretty dresses!

Kinkly: What's unique about your blog?

GJ: I think we find our unique voice by pursuing what authentically fascinates us, and that's what I do with my blog. It's about sex toys, sexuality, relationships, fashion, beauty, mental health, self-improvement, and nerdy shit – all of which are things I'm interested in but which aren't often combined into one blog or publication. I also have a blog feature called Dildoface, which is dildo-inspired makeup tutorials. I'm pretty sure that I'm the first person in the history of the world to ever do that!

Kinkly: What is the topic you find yourself covering most often and why?

GJ: Probably just masturbation in general. It's my best-developed skill and my favorite hobby! (Kidding... sorta.) I started out writing mostly about sex toys, and that's still a huge focus of my blog. Obviously masturbation is strongly connected to that. I also view masturbation as a metaphor for, and manifestation of, self-love and self-help – so it's something I write about from that perspective as well.

Kinkly: What was your most popular post ever? Why do you think it drew so many readers?

GJ: "Blowjob-Friendly Lipsticks For Every Budget" is my most popular post of all time (so far!). I think the beauty angle helped it reach a wider audience than my usual sex-positive crowd, but I also think folks were excited about how in-depth I went in my reviews of those lipsticks. I really did give a BJ in every one of those lip products (albeit to a silicone cock and not a flesh-and-blood one). I took before and after pictures of both my mouth and the dildo I fellated. That level of thoroughness is what I had always wanted in a blowjob-lipsticks round-up and had never been able to find, so I was glad to be able to provide that for people.

Kinkly: What's the best thing about writing a sex blog?

GJ: No one can tell you what to write about. You have a massive amount of freedom, even if you've "limited" yourself to the topic of sex, because sexuality is a MASSIVE arena and there is so so much to think about and unpack all the time. Amassing a giant sex toy collection is also pretty rad, I'm not gonna lie.

Kinkly: What's the worst thing about it?

GJ: There is a certain type of person who, when you mention that you're a sex blogger, will assume that means you're a nymphomaniac who's down to bang anyone at any time, wants to spend every waking hour engaged in sex or sex-related activities, and exists for the titillation of others.Sorry, bros. I am a human. There is other stuff in my brain besides sex. (Gasp!) And I'd like to be treated as such.

Kinkly: OK, now for the good stuff. Give us your best tip for great sex.

GJ: Find a way to be self-reflective about your sexuality on a regular basis. For me, that's journaling – for you, it could be anything from meditation to therapy to bimonthly epic heart-to-hearts with a good friend. I think we never really grow or learn if we don't reflect on our histories and our development. That's especially important in an area like sex where your feelings and desires can change on a dime. The better you get at introspection, the easier it'll be to identify what you want, communicate it clearly, and accept no less than what you deserve. When it comes to sex, that can make all the difference in the world!
