Autosexual

Reviewed by Tara Struyk

Autosexuality is a sexual orientation where one has sex with and is sexually attracted to oneself. It is considered a sexual orientation. Self-pleasure may be more enjoyable for autosexuals than sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual activity. According to the Sage Encyclopedia of Abnormal and Clinical Psychology, the term was coined by sex researcher Bernard Apfelbaum, although it appears that he used it mostly to refer to men who enjoyed masturbation more than partnered sex.

More About Autosexual

Masturbation is a form of autosexuality, but enjoying masturbation does not necessarily make one an autosexual and this sexual orientation or identification can take many forms. In 2017, an American writer named Ghia Vitale got some press for getting engaged to marry herself.

"My definition of autosexuality is being attracted to yourself. I’ve been attracted to myself for as long as I’ve been cognizant of attraction," she told Metro UK in 2019.
