Gender conformity is the tailoring of one's behavior to fit within the cultural norms. It includes all behavior that is altered by an individual to conform to a social gender norm.

Gender conformity is often associated with the homosexual community as, generally, homosexual gender role behavior falls outside the established cultural norm. Usually, gender conformity involves an individual altering his or her behavior to fit or conform to the behavior expected of their specific gender. This type of behavior is closely associated with being closeted or "in the closet."
Gender conformity is not exclusive to the homosexual community, however, and also often occurs in individuals that travel to different countries. As different cultures have different gender norms, individuals that travel may necessarily alter their behavior to conform to the society they find themselves in.
