Literally just hitting retailer shelves this week (launched exclusively with Kinkly!), the Odile anal dilator offers customizable anal dilation in a way that most anal training kits or anal dilation kits can't offer. Through an innovative design that gradually widens or narrows based on how much you turn the "key" at the base, the Odile allows for perfectly customized anal dilation..
The Odile really is the first of its kind on the anal dilation market. It allows you to change the toy's diameter in 1 millimeter increments anywhere from 1" to 1.5" in diameter. This allows you to pretty much "build" your own anal dilation toy. Once you create that toy, you can constantly change it, too - by the second.
It does all of this without inflation or electronics. The internal components use a stainless steel interior (covered by that colorful layer of silicone you see!) with a design that expands and contracts. Unlike inflatable toys, this gives you greater control over the exact expansion - and provides equal expansion throughout the entire length of the Odile. Since the Odile doesn't use any electronics to expand and contract, it's also entirely silent (zero noise at all), and it will never need to be replaced due to an aging battery or a dead motor.
The Odile's customizable size has an entirely different benefit too. Unlike anal dilator kits with multiple toys, there's no need to remove and insert a differently-sized toy with the Odile. In fact, you can actually increase the dilation on the Odile while the toy is fully inserted - which can make for a seamless anal stretching. And you don't have an armful of sex toys to clean when you're done either!

The Odile's flare at its widest point is not particularly "flared", so I wouldn't recommend the Odile for anyone with moderate anal experience - or anyone who regularly takes anal toys above 1.75" in diameter. While my partner regularly takes toys that are 2.25" in diameter (and we haven't had any issues with the base of the Odile), that doesn't mean that it will be universally applicable. We use the Odile with a lighter touch - and keep a firm grip on it - when using it at its widest diameter settings.
With all of that in mind, let's dig into this Odile review:
How'd You Use It?
I'll admit to being slightly concerned about the Odile going fully into the body. With the toy set to the widest diameter (1.5"), the difference between it and the"flared" base that the Odile offers isn't huge. There isn't much of a lip at all. For my partner's anal play-loving butt that regularly takes toys over 2" in diameter, this was a slight concern. After all, if he regularly enjoys 2" diameter toys after a good warm-up, it's always worrying that the Odile might slide into his butt TOO easily.
That didn't happen to be the case - but we were extra cautious about it. We usually used the Odile to 3/4ths of the shaft rather than pushing it further in. Since I did a lot of hand-holding of the Odile, I tend to get a bit bored when I'm being used as a glorified stationary sex toy holder. This meant I did a lot of the thrusting with the Odile into his body.
Because of this slim flared base, I wouldn't recommend going rough with the thrusting. I never let go of the base - and we didn't go nearly as hard as we would with other thrusting toys, so we never had any issue with the Odile.
If you're particularly concerned and want to be rougher with the Odile, I have a great solution for you. Just toss some OhNut onto the base of the insertable Odile area so that it pushes up against the thick "base". This should provide much more of a buffer for anal safety for using the Odile without nearly as much worry about being rough with it.
I imagine that this isn't nearly as much of an issue if you're someone who's actually using it to stretch for your first anal intercourse experience. Since we regularly play with larger toys, his butt is easily stretched out to wider sizes, but if you're using the Odile as someone with minimal anal experience, this may not be nearly as much of a concern. For instance, if getting from 1.4" to 1.45" is a serious stretch for your body, your butt isn't going to stretch itself to 1.5" and beyond unexpectedly for the toy to easily slide in. You'd have to be providing a whole lot of pressure - and it'd likely be painful enough to stop.
I'll also admit to being slightly concerned that the Odile might not be able to hold its shape when a butt's powerful muscles started to compress it. Turns out, I had nothing to be concerned about.
Even at the thickest setting (1.5"), the Odile holds perfectly firm - with no concerns - even when being pretty rough with the toy. I now have zero concerns that the Odile is going to collapse under pressure. It's really well-built like that. It stays on the size you put it on, and the only adjustment to the size that's going to accidentally happen is if/when you accidentally bump the key at the base of the Odile.
I'll admit that the "key" at the base can get slightly annoying for handling the Odile. In fact, I'd say that it's the worst part of the Odile. I love the hell out of most parts about this toy - the adjustable thickness, the silky-smooth silicone, the easy-to-use design, and how quiet it is.
But the fact that the "key" exists at the base means that you can't sit down on it - or put any pressure onto the base of the Odile while using it. As someone who loves to use toys - and "force" my partner to enjoy them for long periods of time while we do something else, the Odile doesn't necessarily fit into my playstyle.
The Odile requires active attention to use it. This isn't necessarily a bad thing! Presumably, for the most part, if you're doing anal dilation, you'll probably be actively paying attention to the activity that you're trying to do.
But if you're someone who likes to insert a toy and move onto other types of foreplay - or sit and watch porn while it gently stretches open the butt - you might have a bit more difficulty using the Odile compared to standard dildos or butt plugs.
Due to its completely straight design (which is honestly perfect for a dilator! Not faulting it there!), the Odile doesn't necessarily stay in the butt without using some pressure to hold it in place. Over time - and more quickly if your butthole is contracting in pleasure - the Odile will start to slide itself out since there's no area of slimmer diameter (like the stem of most butt plugs) to help the butt "grip" onto it. This, again, means that you need to pay full attention to the Odile while using it - or else your Odile ends up on the floor or bed.
That makes the Odile a fantastic toy if you're someone who doesn't multitask during anal pleasure during sex. It's really designed FOR you. The key allows you to increase and decrease the thickness within seconds while listening to all of the cues from your body. It really encourages you to check in on yourself which can be huge when you're just starting anal.

How Else Could It Be Used?
We haven't used the Odile in the shower or bath, but the Odile's waterproof design would make it a workable choice for water fun. Especially if you're concerned about mess or post anal play clean-up, this would make anal stretching more approachable. (Now I'm imagining a bath where you have the Waterslyde going while also using the Odile at the same time!)
However, while the Odile says that it's waterproof, I don't see any easy way to ensure that all water is thoroughly dried in the Odile before storage. I worry that water might dry inside the toy and provide unseen mold, and you'd never have any idea. For that reason, I've been mostly treating it as "splashproof" rather than wholly waterproof. When we submerged it, I left it on the bathroom sink for a few days and would periodically shake out the water.
While I feel like the Odile anal dilator should work great for vaginal dilation as well, the instruction manual clearly states not to use it for dilation anywhere aside from the butt - so just something to keep in mind.
Product Details
Designed as a dilator, the Odile has a slightly tapered tip that gently transitions into a completely smooth shaft with zero texture or deviation at most of the sizes. While this is a bit odd in the dildo world (where more features is better!), it's a desired trait in anal dilation. This means that every anal dilation experience is, reliably, the same. You don't have to wonder whether your body feels fuller than usual due to a texture; everything about the texture and design of the Odile remains exactly the same aside from the gently increasing diameter.
To be clear, though, that isn't 100% true for the Odile at all sizes. The perfect-roundness of the Odile shaft changes - just slightly - at the widest diameter. The toy gets more of a "flower" shape to it - with five, distinct, visible protrusions from the expanding internal mechanism. This isn't distinctly noticeable during penetration, but the Odile does feel more rigid and firm at the widest setting compared to the slimmest setting.
Since the Odile has zero electronic parts, it's entirely quiet. Like, my mouse and keyboard makes more noise than when I turn the dial on the Odile. I breathe louder than the Odile is. If you're someone who has discretion requirements, the Odile can easily fit into them; it's entirely sound-free.
The Odile has a really unique design, and I wish Odile clearly explained it somewhere so I could copy and paste their explanation instead of attempting (and possibly poorly explaining!) how its internal mechanisms work.
From my end, though, here's what it seems like is happening:
That thick base of the Odile - where the key attaches - houses a spreading mechanism. Attached to this mechanism are five separate, long arms that make up the length of the dilator that you insert. When the Odile is fully compressed, those five arms touch, side-to-side, to make the 1" base of the starting diameter.
As you start to expand the size using the key at the base of the Odile, those five separate, long arms start to "expand" - which makes the diameter of the Odile get thicker. At the same time, it gently stretches the layer of silicone that surrounds the internal arms.
When you reach the thickest function of the Odile (1.5" in diameter), that five-arm design becomes a lot more noticeable. You can feel the five separate "arms" - and you can feel the squishy give of the silicone material in the gaps between them.
An easy visual would be to attempt to straighten all of your fingers - then touch them together to make the smallest diameter you can possibly make. (Imagine you're trying to insert your entire hand into a tight pipe or a potato chip can) That's the Odile at rest. Now gently spread your fingers all away from one another. That's the Odile as it gently expands in diameter. If you'd just insert your hand into a layer of silicone, you'd essentially have the Odile's design in a nutshell!
Due to this neat design, the Odile does tend to have the smoothest, most-even, circular, tapered tip when the Odile is at its smaller settings. At the thickest settings the tapered design of the Odile reduces, and the toy has a little bit of a "flower"-looking tip with the five different arms instead of the gently tapered tip you see when the Odile is fully compressed.
Since everything about the Odile is fully mechanical with zero electronics, there's no noise to be had. The loudest part of the process is when I pick the toy up and ruffle the bedsheets a bit. There is no squeaking or grinding to be had while turning the Odile's key.

Materials and Care
Everything that touches your skin on the Odile is made from silicone. Inside of that silicone, there's a stainless steel frame that functions as the expander. And, of course, there's the black base of the toy where the key is made from plastic. The toy has zero scent to it - even straight out of the packaging - and the silicone is also taste-free (if you get a sudden urge to try to eat your anal dilator. I ain't judging here).
When cleaning the Odile, you'll want to use warm water and mild soap to clean all of the silicone surface areas. While the Odile's instruction manual doesn't say anything about waterproof capabilities, the Odile feature page on Kinkly Shop states that the Odile is waterproof. Any excess water that gets inside the Odile should be firmly shaken out while the Odile is tipped upside down.
When using anything anally, it's a MUST to use lube. Ensure that it's a water-based lube to avoid any interactions between your silicone lube and the silicone material of your body safe sex toy.
I can't find any information about any warranty for the Odile at all. There's no information included in the instruction manual. It's really, really odd for a high-quality sex toy to not have any sort of warranty or guarantee.
The Packaging
The Odile Anal Dilator comes in a cardboard box. The Odile shows clearly through a see-through window on the box, which means this won't be the most discreet box for long-term storage of the Odile.
To get the Odile outside of the box, you just gently slide the Odile's cardboard tray outside of the cardboard sleeve that surrounds it. You can then easily remove the Odile and its instruction manual from the cardboard tray.
The Odile comes with a fully illustrated, full-color booklet that describes how to use the Odile. This booklet reminds me of some of the b-Vibe product booklets (like in my b-Vibe Anal Massage Kit review). This booklet has a whole lot of information - even if I raise my brow at some of it. It's 8 full pages (of English; other languages included too for a lengthy booklet!) of instructions about how to use the Odile itself - in addition to pages of illustrated sex positions too.
The English is a bit odd in places (it reads like someone who writes technical science manuals instead of recreation reading material), but it provides a whole lot of good information about the Odile and how to use it including:

Why the Odile is better than other methods of anal dilation (I'm not sure this is necessary for a manual for a product that you've already purchased, but it does explain some concepts behind the product)
How to use the Odile (including illustrations)
Illustrations of recommended positions for using the Odile
Caution about over-inserting the Odile
How to use penetration movements during use for more pleasure
What to do when you're done playing
What NOT to do with your Odile (Don't sit on it, don't lay on it, don't over-insert it, don't use it in "any other orifices")
What you should know about anal anatomy
Signs of damaging anal practices
I will say that there are some passages in here that give me some definite pause. With sexuality, it's hard to really talk in "absolutes". Aside from a few main, rules (anal needs lube, consent is vital, you should be enjoying what you're doing), most of sexuality is pretty fluid. That's why some of the "absolutes" in this instruction manual definitely give me pause.
For example, the manual says "For absolute beginners, don't be intimidated by the 1 inch minimum diameter of your dilator as your butt is already naturally trained to take this size".
Assuming anyone's body is "naturally" going to take an entire inch seems pretty presumptuous - especially when some people have difficulty getting a single finger into their butt already.
I'm also a bit confused why the Odile wouldn't be safe for use in "any other orifices". Either it's a dilator that dilates body parts - or it isn't. Claiming it can't be used anywhere aside from anal seems like a weird legal thing I'm not understanding.

There's also an entire section about anal hygiene which includes "Cleaning using an anal douche is best!" Which, again, you run into "some people aren't comfortable with that or really need that". Yes, you'll encounter less fecal matter with a thorough, shallow enema, but that doesn't make it "best".
I feel like some of this might be some possible translation errors, but I think some of it is just attributed to the fact that it doesn't seem like a sex educator wrote the booklet.
The Verdict
If you're absolutely brand new to anal, the Odile can be a great way to start to train yourself. As long as you can take 1" in diameter (which is going to be slightly larger than 1 finger but smaller than two fingers side-by-side - using an average hand), the Odile is going to be an amazing, all-in-one toy that can take you from absolute beginner all the way to anal intercourse.
If anal intercourse with a human isn't your eventual goal, the Odile does just as good of a job getting you comfortable with inserting a larger size which will allow you to take most average-sized dildos and toys out there.
Regardless of what you're trying to slide in your holes, the Odile is well-crafted, really innovative, and simple to use. It's made from durable, body-safe materials, and it's pretty much designed to be a "tool" you can use to stretch your anus to the point where you need/want it.
There are some downsides, but it depends on how you like to use your anal toys. If you're looking for the most effective way to gently warm-up your body, the Odile's reliably constant shaft size and expandable thickness make it a perfect buddy. It just won't function as a butt plug - and you might find yourself limited in what sex positions you can use it in. If you're looking for a hands-free option to stretch your butt and willing to sacrifice efficacy, though, the Odile might not be a good fit.

I really wouldn't recommend the Odile if you're regularly taking toys/penises in diameter of over 1.75" unless you plan to be really careful. The lack of a thick flared base at the thickest Odile setting is definitely a slight concern for me - especially if you tend to ride your toys hard. I don't think it's much of a problem for those who are on the beginner side of the spectrum, though.
I do recommend picking up some OhNut penetration buffers to go with your Odile, though, if you're concerned about the base. Those have worked swimmingly for us.
Other Options
Presumably, if you're looking into the Odile, you're probably interested in one of three things: stretching the butt, anal dilation, or having a toy that's workable for anal intercourse warm-up - either with a partner or a larger dildo. It could also be used for vaginal stretching.
If that's the case, there are other options out there that can fulfill some of the functionality that the Odile does. They aren't quite the same (since they aren't quite the all-in-one option that Odile provides), but they do provide thicker flared bases and are options that can be sat on or multi-tasked with.
Your first big option would be the b-Vibe Anal Training Kit. This kit is also designed for stretching the butt until it can take a size around that of a biological penis. However, the Anal Training Kit does it via three separate butt plugs (each with their own fun features). Since they're butt plugs, you do have to swap them out with their very specific increments (unlike the Odile, which can just be effortlessly thickened), but with the tapered tips of the b-Vibe Anal Plugs, it's possible to gently insert a plug without fully inserting if you're in-between sizes.
The b-Vibe Anal Training Kit will likely provide more sensation (especially with the plug that vibrates!), but butt plugs don't offer the same, comfortable thrusting sensation that dildos or the Odile provides. As another bonus, the b-Vibe Anal Training Kit can also be sat on or mindlessly used while doing other things with your hands - which can make it a great fit if you tend to enjoy anal pleasure while masturbating too.
After that, I'd recommend the Blush Novelties Dilator Kit. If you're looking for a "pure" dilator experience, this is going to be a good kit to go with. It comes with four separate dilators - all with the textureless, featureless shafts that dilators are known for. The shafts of the Blush Dilator Kit are much more flexible than the shaft of the Odile - which can occasionally make it more frustrating to insert a Blush dilator when it tries to bend into itself.
If lube is always a big thing for you, I'd go for the Cloud 9 Dilator Kit after that. The Cloud 9 kit is the only dilator kit that features hollow, interior lube channels that let you squirt lube into the base of the toy while it's inserted - and the lube will flow out the top of the dilator. Especially if you're someone who likes to leave their dilator inside of the body with minimal movement, having that bonus bit of lube can really help with keeping your internal bits happy.
Alternatively, if you want a bit more texture with your sensation, there's the Blush Temptasia Dildo Kit. It isn't a dilator kit, per se, but it's a dildo kit with gradually thickening sizes. Unlike dilators, which are fully straight and textureless, the Blush Temptasia Dildo Kit offers a swirling, sensational texture along the shaft and a dildo shape that's slightly curved for different sensations.

Tips for Buying Anal Dilators
Buying an anal dilator is a pretty personal thing, and because of how useful anal dilators can be, the "need" for them really varies. Are you getting an anal dilator for medical reasons? Are you getting it to gently train yourself to a certain toy size you want to use? Do you need them to help stretch your body over a couple of months to a size where anal intercourse is pleasurable? Or maybe you just want anal dilators to help you warm-up over a half-hour to make anal intercourse more pleasurable afterwards?
Like I said, anal dilators can be versatile little things! With that in mind, when you're buying anal dilators, I'd recommend:
Know what you need the dilators for. Someone who needs anal dilators for a doctor-recommended program is going to likely want different features than someone who is getting anal dilators for masturbation and pleasure.
Decide how you want to use them. Will you want to continue to enjoy other types of foreplay while the butt plug gently warms you up? Or do you want the anal dilator to be the focus of the play? This will change what type of dilator you want to look for.
Decide how many dilators you want to have. Aside from the unique design of the Odile that lets it function as an all-in-one dilator option, most anal dilator kits have multiple toys to accomplish that same function. More dilators means more cost. Do you want 3 dilators? 4? 5? 6? Think about what increments you want to increase your stretching by - and how many toys you want to regularly clean and take care of.
