However, those same things can make it difficult to achieve. This isn't a comfortable (or achievable!) position for many people, and it takes a large amount of flexibility to get into the Wide Open position. In particular, the bound partner should be practicing their pancake splits and Happy Baby pose on a regular basis before attempting the Wide Open Position.
While stretching is recommended before many kinky scenes, we highly recommend it for the Wide Open position. This will be a deep stretch for anyone who can accomplish it, and the wiggling during the scene is likely to cause muscle cramps on muscles that aren't warmed up. Ways to modify the Wide Open position
While the Wide Open position still requires flexibility from the recipient no matter how much we modify it, there are some easy ways to reduce some of the stress points of the position:
- Leave the arms out of the equation. Instead of binding the arms to the legs, simply pull the legs back to their comfortable stretch and use rope (or cuffs and tethers) to bind the legs backwards towards a bondage point above the bound person's head. This will provide the same access between the thighs while reducing involvement of the chest and arms.
- Reduce how far the legs are stretched backwards. You can even keep the legs bent! This may make the Wide Open position look a bit more like a Happy Baby yoga pose, but it will provide similar access between the legs without the deep stretch.
- Use cuffs instead of bondage tape. Bondage tape requires both limbs to lay against each other - and that's another layer of flexibility. Instead, attach individual wrist and ankle cuffs together. This will allow both limbs to move further away from each other, reducing how severely the body needs to be folded.
