The Toy: The Ann Summers Elegant Love Vibrator

The Verdict: Kinkly logoKinkly logoKinkly logo (out of five)

Sex toys can be a bit of a gamble. Some will make you swoon, others will put you to sleep - unsatisfied. So, I’m making it my mission to honestly test out new sex toys (it’s a hard job, but someone’s got to do it!). That way, you won’t have to waste time and money finding the right toy for you. (You can thank me later.)

I recently picked up the Ann Summers Elegant Love Vibrator, a pink silicone clit and G-spot stimulator. How did it fare? Let's just say it had its highs and lows. Check out my full review for more details on this cute little vibe.

Note: With all vibrators and sex toys, I really recommend you use some lubrication, whether you are on your own or with a partner. It makes the whole experience easier, more stimulating and lots more fun.

Overview

This is a simple vibrator with a sleek design and easy-to-use controls. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a rabbit, but it does have four functions and three different speeds. You know what that means, ladies: Seven different levels of pleasure! The vibrator has a tapered shaft, which makes it easier to hold, both when using it on your own and with a partner, although will have to get used to your hand vibrating with the machine! At $44 (£28), it’s pretty good value for those looking for something with clitoral and G-spot stimulation. And, although Ann Summers is a U.K.-based brand, the company will ship toys worldwide for a nominal fee.

Because this toy is made of smooth silicone, it feels nice to touch and it’s a pretty pink colour. It’s also great if you’re put off by a scary-long shaft as it’s fairly compact at around seven inches. In a nutshell, this vibrator is cute and classy, but if you're looking for something more life-like, this is not the toy for you. (Interested in the history of vibrators? The Highs

The Elegant Love has pretty fool-proof controls, just an on/off button and a speed button. That makes this toy simple to use. The buttons also light up, making it easy to use this toy in the dark. Its soft silicone and large head make it easy to find the G-spot and stimulate it without the soreness you can sometimes experience with this kind of toy. (Again, using lube will make this a lot easier. It's also best to wait until you're a little more aroused to go there.) I also give this vibrator points for being quite flexible, which makes it much more maneuverable for G-spot stimulation.

The Lows

It’s unfortunate that the Elegant Love's large head is both what makes it so good for the G-spot, and not so good as a clitoral stimulator. I found that the large head not only made it very hard to find my clit, it also made it hard to keep the thing anywhere near it, as the curved design at the end made it slip off. Can you say frustrating? If you want a vibrator more specifically for your clitoris, I would recommend that you get something more like a bullet.

Also, while the Elegant Love is no slouch - it has a pretty powerful buzz - I found that I got over-sensitive at times, especially when it came to clitoral stimulation. And, I'm sorry to report, I didn’t enjoy all the buzz settings as much as I thought I might; it was all a bit samey. It seemed more like there were two settings than seven. I prefer my bullet vibrator for this job. Maybe it's just me, but I like variety!

The Elegant Love is also fairly quiet, but if you’re looking for something that won't make a peep, this isn’t for you either.

Flying Solo

Using the Elegant Love on my own was good fun, once I got the hang of it, although I did switch it off a couple of times by mistake. Ooops ... Well, I guess vibrators are a bit like a new boyfriend; you need spend time with them to get them working for you!

Playing in Pairs

I tried using this vibrator as foreplay with a partner, but as I mentioned before, this toy's large head makes it hard to hit that sweet spot. It will work well if you’re using it for your G-spot; the curve at the end and the softness of the silicone makes the whole experience pretty gentle, even when it's being wielded by an over-enthusiastic partner. During sex, it’s pretty good in a range of positions because it’s rounded and quite flexible. It’s particularly good for a woman-on-top position.

The Verdict

The Elegant Love is a good overall solo vibe, but it'll work for couples' play too. It doesn't pack the punch of some of the bigger, more powerful vibrators out there, but I wouldn't say it's a beginner's vibrator either. I'd say it's best suited to those who are taking their next step into vibrators, but aren't looking to buy the traditional rabbit-style vibe.

Overall, the Ann Summers Elegant Love vibrator works well as a G-spot stimulator, but when it comes to hitting the old lady love button, it's just too big and clumsy to get the job done. Although, perhaps with a little more practice ...

Overall, I give it three hearts out of five.
