Sex in the news
Sex Gone Viral: This Week’s Salacious Stories
In the age of viral videos, naughty behavior or even a slightly revealing picture, captured and posted quickly, can earn any one of us that infamous 15-minutes of fame. Or increase our cultural value enough to suddenly incorporate.
Like the young woman who flashed during a Stanley Cup final (who recently got asked to pose for Playboy), or the man who drank a margarita out of a woman's ass crack in a Mexican restaurant, or the many times Kim Kardashian has broken the Internet.
In Kinkly's brand new "Sex Gone Viral" column, we'll attempt to capture these salacious hot-today-gone-tomorrow stories, with as much insight and fun commentary at possible, given how quickly this news will pass by.
So, please enjoy the very first installment of "Sex Gone Viral."
Hailey Welch’s “Hawk Tuah” Heard ‘Round The World
When Vanity Fair, the The New York Times, and Rolling Stone weigh in on your meteoric rise to popularity, you know you have truly arrived.
And Hailey “Hawk Tuah” Girl Welch has certainly done just that.
From revealing her sex advice on the now infamous Tim & Dee TV (“You gotta give ’em that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thang. You get me?”), to acquiring a trademark for that quirky turn of phrase, to setting up her 16 Minutes LLC so she can sell swag proclaiming her advice, to acquiring Penthouse management representation, anything seems possible for this young woman from rural Nashville, whom Rolling Stone called "a charming Gen Z Dolly Parton.”
Although there's supposed science (and surely we use that word loosely in this context) behind the how and why content goes viral, which mostly comes down to the content producer planning their content wisely and leveraging trends, these factors don’t apply to impromptu person-in-the-street moments like asking a young Nashville woman a naughty question and her answer capturing the Internet.
More sex gone viral this week
While it seems to make some sort of sense that the story this week of a female tourist climbing Giambologna’s nude Bacchus statue and mimicking various sex acts would make news, what we learn from the Hailey Welch’s of the modern world is that there is no rhyme or reason to why something gains popularity, or how long that popularity will last.
And while we are on the subject, here are a few more here-today-maybe-gone-tomorrow tidbits:
- As reported by the UK’s Mirror Online former Top Gear star and UK broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson recently bought a quaint village pub in the Cotswold countryside only to find out the area was used for what the British call “Dogging,” the practice of having sex in public. Maybe we should all head to Cotswold for a drink...
- And Dubai’s Princess Shaikha Mahra Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced her divorce from husband Sheikh Mana Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum this week…over Instagram. The 30-year-old figured her soon-to-be-ex was simply too busy with his “other companions” so she to let her husband, and the rest of the world, know that she didn't plan to be married anymore.
- Speaking of cheaters, the internet shared in TikTok user @kellysophiaava's rage this week when she posted a video in which she found her husband on the beach... snuggling with his mistress.
That's it for this week! But join us next week for the next edition of "Sex Gone Viral."
