Review: Sex Butter Personal Lubricant
This unique lube is as rich and luxurious as it sounds.
The Basics
Sex Butter is a unique personal lubricant. Unlike many of the the weird, artificial smelling gels and lotions out there, this one's made with organic essential oils, including coconut oil, shea butter and jojoba oil. It smells rather pleasantly like a familiar face lotion or face wash: fresh and vaguely herbal, with a touch of mint. I liked it, but I can see how it might not be to everyone's taste. The mint's also there to provide a nice, stimulating tingle - which it does!
Sex Butter is packaged very simply in a sturdy jar. It is solid at room temperature, but don’t be fooled! The moment it touches your skin, it melts beautifully into oil. You'll also really feel like you’re doing your privates some good by lathering them with Sex Butter. And it is such a silky moisturizer that you will want to dab it onto other dry spots - if you can spare it. Its all-natural ingredients also mean no irritation, something you certainly don't want to experience anywhere near your private bits.
Flying Solo
The fact that Sex Butter is a solid is actually a good thing. It means there's very little mess involved; all you really need is a few swipes of your finger in the jar to get the right amount for a good time. You’d be surprised at how far even the slightest bit of oil will go. It’s great to use with either your fingers or with a toy. Plus, it's safe to use on all types of sex toys, including silicone.
As promised, Sex Butter really does heighten sensation. Not only does it intensify orgasms, but for ladies who have a harder time getting there, it can also smooth the way for an easier journey.
Play As a Pair
Because Sex Butter is edible, it can be great for oral sex and foreplay. The taste is a long way off many chemical "strawberry" flavored goos designed for this purpose, but because it's herbal it won't be for everyone. As a lubricant, it's great for all kinds of play. It's also nice that you won't find it dripping off the end of the bedside table. It does get sticky after a while though, as it absorbs into the skin. Also note that if you're using condoms, Sex Butter does not mix with latex. As with all oil-based lubricants, it will break down the rubber and could cause the condom to break. Polyurethane or lambskin condoms will work just fine though. (Learn more about lubricants and how they can be used in The Ins and Outs of Sexual Lubricants.)
Sex Butter also makes for nice foreplay. It's great for a top-notch back massage ... although, considering you only have an ounce to spare, it may be more worth your time to focus on the fun parts!
The Verdict
The best thing about this lubricant is that a little goes a long way, both in terms of lubrication and heightened sensation. That said, you will be tempted - very tempted - to rub this stuff all over your body.
That said, Sex Butter does have a rather noticeable smell and taste that might not be for everyone. But keep in mind that the smell comes from the very oils that make for such a delicious texture. Personally, I love the natural smell, so I'm giving it five hearts out of five.
