Gokkun is a sex act that involves drinking the semen of one or more partners. Typically, the person performing gokkun drinks the semen from a container, such as a cup, a bowl, a baking pan or a wine glass.
Gokkun is a Japanese word that is similar to the English word gulp, denoting the sound a person might make while performing the act. Someone might perform this sex act after giving oral sex or participating in bukkake, a sex act that also originated in Japan, where multiple men ejaculate over the body of a partner.
While gokkun can refer to a person drinking the semen of one or more men, the act typically involves multiple ejaculators. For example, there are pornographic films in which a person drinks the semen of as many as 200 people. Pornography commonly shows a woman performing gokkun, the activity can be performed by people of any gender.
Gokkun in Pornography
Gokkun is so common in Japanese porn that the term has even come to refer to a genre of porn. A search of Pornhub for the term reveals hundreds of results.
Kate Sloan, sex journalist and author of 101 Kinky Things Even You Can Do has some advice for those who may be turned on by portrayals of gokkun of pornography but not sure if they actually want to engage in it themselves:
“Sometimes you might see an activity in porn and think, 'Ooh, that’s hot!' while knowing, at the same time, that it’s not something you actually want to try in real life. That’s a very normal and common experience to have while watching porn; not all fantasies are destined to become reality, for various reasons. If you want to explore a gokkun fantasy without actually doing gokkun, dirty talk is a good middle ground – you and your partner can make up a little story together, about all the filthy things you could theoretically do, and the two of you can enjoy that fantasy together without needing to worry about the physical and emotional risks involved in actually enacting that fantasy.”
Gokkun and Safety
Because gokkun involves the ingestion of sexual fluids, it does carry some risk. Some sexually transmitted infections can be transmitted this way.
“As with any sex act involving the exchange of bodily fluids,” says Sloan “ it’s best to know your own STI status and the STI status of your partner(s) before trying gokkun. STIs can easily be transmitted via semen – especially if you’re consuming it in large quantities – and getting tested beforehand can potentially give you some peace of mind.”
It should be noted that the risks of contracting these diseases are increased if the person drinking the semen has gingivitis or open mouth sores.
Some people also have an allergy to the proteins found in semen, known as seminal plasma hypersensitivity, although this is very rare. These people should refrain from performing gokkun.
As Sloan points out, there are other health complications that might make gokkun a bad idea. “Some people also report nausea or other stomach discomfort after swallowing semen, and these effects (if you experience them) would, of course, be increased if you were swallowing greater quantities of it.”
