A hands-free variant of your favorite rear entry position, the Power Forward position places all of the thrusting strength into the penetrating partner's lower body to create a new angle.
To get into this sex position, the receiving partner should get on their hands and knees. Once there, the penetrating partner kneels behind receiving partner, lining up for penetration. The penetrating partner can then use their hands to slide inside. Once inside, the penetrating partner leans, hips forward and chest leaned backwards, to thrust into the receiver without using their hands.
Some couples will naturally find themselves in the Power Forward position while doing Doggy style. Traditional Doggy style uses the hands for leverage and usually has the penetrating partner leaning forwards overtop of their partner. The Power Forward position swaps out both of those things with a hands-free position that has the penetrating partner leaning backwards, away from their partner.
More About Power Forward Sex Position
By simply changing the penetrating partner's angle, Doggy style can feel like a whole new position. With an upward thrusting angle instead of a horizontal one, the penis or dildo will slide into a different place in the receiver, hitting brand new spots. You might be surprised to find that the angles are very different than the ones you love in Doggy style!
The penetration angle isn't just the responsibility of the penetrating partner, though. The receiving partner can also change how penetration feels by shifting their hips and torso. Bringing the torso up and down can change where, exactly, the penetration stimulates. The receiver can also tilt their hips, tucking or arching their back to change exactly where the penis or dildo will hit. It may take a bit of experimentation from both partners to find the exact angles that make you both fall in love with the Power Forward position.
Height will also make a big difference in the Power Forward Position. If both partners are of about the same height, the upward angle will likely direct the penis or dildo away from the G-spot or P-spot. However, if the penetrating partner is coming in from a higher height than the receiver, penetration may point more downwards, hitting the G-spot or P-spot.
Power Forward Position: Made for Video
You'll often see the Power Forward position in adult videos and movies, and there are some good reasons for that:
- It moves the penetrating partner's hands away from the action. This can make it easier for the cameras to get close-ups of the penetration.
- It's extremely complimentary to a penetrating partner with abs. This backwards lean is the best angle to get ab muscles to pop, and it works just as well during sex as it would while standing in front of the mirror.
If you and your partner love making sexy home videos, you might choose the Power Forward sex position for the same reasons porn directors do.
Modifying the Power Forward Sex Position
If you're comfortable in Doggy Style, you might be comfortable in the Power Forward position without any modifications. However, there's one big difference in body mechanics compared to traditional Doggy style — the lower back engagement from the penetrating partner. In order to thrust solely from the hips with a slight lean, the lower back need to do much more work than it does in the standard Doggy style position.
If, at any point, you're feeling strain in your lower back during the Power Forward position, just return your spine to neutral and go into a standard Doggy style position. Or choose another Doggy style variation. There are quite a few, and most of them do not fall upon the lower back so heavily.
Like any from behind variation, the Power Forward position also places a lot of weight on the knees for both partners. Ensure you're doing this position on a soft surface to reduce knee strain for everyone involved. To further reduce strain, consider sliding a tall piece of sex furniture, like a folded Liberator Flip-Ramp, underneath the receiver's abdomen to give them a place to rest some of their weight so it's not all on their knees.
the Power Forward sex position places a lot of weight on the knees and the lower back, it may not be a good fit for every couple, and that's okay!
Sex is about enjoying yourselves and your connection, and your position should never detract from that. There are hundreds of other sex positions that can better honor the bodies you're in today if you're finding that the Power Forward position isn't a home run for the two of you.
