Having heard of Dr. Margaret Robinson’s research for some time, I am glad to see some of her reports on her findings of the higher use of marijuana among bisexual women. I remember hearing of the studies she was doing (she’s a friend) and wondering if they would actually bear any fruit. Turns out bi women do, indeed, smoke significantly more weed than straight women and lesbians...and the reasons could be numerous. Dr. Robinson’s finding point to the stigma of being bi as well as the discrimination held against women. For many, substances can be a coping mechanism to deal with issues. If there are a couple of issues worth having a toke over, these ones seem worthy.

We’ve all heard the warnings about sexting and those caveats are pretty damn important. Yet, at the same time, we’re human. Her List of Fictional Men I Believe Have Been Pegged had me both laughing and thinking. I’m not entirely sure about everyone on her list, but it did make me start considering some fictional men that I think may have been pegged. My top spot is a tie of two characters played by the same actor: David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Hank Moody. You see, Hank has definitely been pegged. He was probably all drunk and gruff about it the first time...every time after he’s begged for it in characteristically sarcastic murmurs. Mulder, on the other cheek, thought about it for years and years...dreaming, wondering...until Scully showed up at an alien stakeout with an uncharacteristic bulge under her skirt.

F**k Niceties

There is education and then there is knowledge. This image of a condom rejection test gone incredibly wrong / not wrong is testament to the fact that reality about our sexual world doesn’t always fit onto the little lines of curriculum. A 14-year-old girl was suspended for providing honest, kick-in-the-balls answers that are entirely valid and reasonable responses to the asshole excuses a partner might make for failing to rubber up. Rather than getting this girl into trouble, someone should give her a thumbs up for knowing how to stand up for herself at such a young age.

Self Designed Sex

Finally, as we celebrate and rejoice in our continued commitment to joyful and enjoyable sex, we have to keep in mind that sex isn’t the be all, end all. It is fantastic to be open, exploratory, and curious about sex. However, not everyone is in that same space. They might want to be in on the conversations we’re having, but that doesn’t mean that we all embrace all aspects of sexuality. These brilliant images are simple and elegant expressions that remind us that sex drives differ, desires differ, and reasons for wanting or not wanting sex differ. In much the same respect as I’ve heard ‘vanilla’ used as a pejorative, it is necessary to consider all people in our discussions of sex - even those who aren't having any.
