It’s not a secret that people are OBSESSED with cannabis and sex right now. Now that marijuana use is becoming so mainstream (and legal in many places), people are excited to figure out ways to incorporate it into their lives.

There are many reasons people love cannabis, but when it comes to sex, it’s really about how it decreases anxiety, relieves stress, and helps with libido.

As a sexologist, I can safely say that cannabis products have the potential to foster embodied sexuality. I’ve been experimenting with different forms of cannabis and recommending products for many, many months now. And I think I’ve found the best ones for you!

From lubes, to edibles, to tonics, to massage oils, to bath products, here is why cannabis products are the key to embodied sexuality.

Tell Me a Little About Cannabis, Baby

Weed. Marijuana. May Jane. The Reefer. Whatever you want to call it.

The two main properties in cannabis products are THC and CBD. THC is the psychoactive element, the one that gets you high. CBD is the property that relieves pain, anxiety, and so many other ailments. It also helps to curb the psychoactive effects of THC. Check out this brain scan to see how it works. Products with higher levels of CBD offer a “chiller” high.

THC is what makes cannabis illegal. The two main ingredients can be separated out, meaning you can legally use CBD-only products wherever you’d like. Both ingredients have the ability to increase overall sexual wellness and embodiment. (Read Sex on Weed: 7 Ways Cannabis Enhanced My Sex Life.)

Cannabis and Embodied Sex

Cannabis has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries on end. 1906 CEO & Founder, Peter Barsoom points out that literature goes back hundreds of years.

And for good reason. “Our body’s natural endocannabinoid system is key in regulating things like pleasure, pain, relaxation, and homeostasis. When it is activated by the cannabinoids in cannabis, it can leave users feeling relaxed with increased pleasure and decreased pain,” Barsoom says. “This can lead to increased arousal and make sex even more enjoyable.”

It does more than just turn you on, it gets you into your body. Everything feels more alive.

“Cannabis can leave a body high [in a way] that makes you ultra-relaxed, but also sensitive to touch, and also craving being touched. Many women report that smoking cannabis makes them aroused naturally,” says Daniel Saynt, cannabis expert and founder of The New Society for Wellness (NSFW), a sex-positive members-only club that hosts sexual education workshops.

“Cannabis is a stimulant for more meaningful conversations, and deeper connections [which makes] for a more intense level of intimacy.”

When you’re relaxed, the body's ability to feel pleasure increases. Your nervous system calms and gives you a sense of safety, which in turn allows you to let go and give into sexual sensations like never before. For THC products (such as edibles or smoking weed), you want to do everything in moderation.

I suggest sticking to edibles that have no more than 5 mgs of THC (with comparable CBD to balance).

If you’re not ingesting the products (lubes, bath oils etc.), the psychoactive properties of THC won’t affect you. In fact, higher doses on THC in these contexts can be preferable, as it increases blood-flow.

Can you get your pussy high? I mean, kind of, yeah. OK. So, what should you buy?

What to Eat

1906’s LOVE edibles have changed my perspective on weed and sex quite a bit. These tiny, chocolate covered coffee beans deliver 5mg of THC, which is just enough to get you buzzed, but not where you feel like you’re out of control.

These bite-sized morsels literally made my clit buzz within 20 minutes of taking them. My orgasms are more intense with these edibles; my worries wash away, and everything just sort of feels … like it’s gonna be OK, you know?

“1906’s LOVE was the first specially formulated edible aphrodisiac. It’s an aphrodisiac made from 6 exotic plants from across the globe. It’s designed to increase blood flow and ignite libido,” Barsoom says.

These edibles have been shown to increase sensation in the body and boost sex drive in a big way. Trust me. This is legit.

Which Lubes to Use

There are two amazing lubes that I’ve quickly become obsessed with and absolutely swear by. Foria offers broad-spectrum CBD, which has been shown to decrease pain during sex, increase blood-flow, and get you in the mood. Try Awaken, which is packed with coconut oil and kava.

Another great product is High On Love’s stimulating orgasm oil. It comes in both a THC and CBD-only version (because, you know, the law). Putting a few drops on your clitoris before solo or partnered play ups the ante hardcore on sensation. It almost feels like it’s “warming” the clitoris, which makes you consciously aware of your clitoris, which gets you into your body. Get it?

“During sex, I find that cannabis-infused lubes is always a good option to have. For those who may experience pain during sex, whether vaginal or anal stimulation, an indica based weed oil helps. It has natural pain relieving properties that help reduce discomfort,” Saynt tells me. (Read Can I Get My Butt Stoned? - Experts Weigh in on CBD Oil for Anal Sex.)

What to Take Daily for Overall Wellness

Cannabis products can be used daily for sexual embodiment in the long-term. Activating the body’s endocannabinoid system doesn’t even mean getting high, even if you are ingesting the product.

For daily wellness, try Foria’s Daily Tonic. It’s pure CBD, meaning no getting messed up. It helps to calm the nervous system and general anxiety. I take it right before bed to get into a good headspace for sleep.

You’ll definitely notice a difference in your stress levels throughout the day, leading to a greater sense of comfort in your body and an openness to sexual pleasure.

What to Use In Your Bathtub

If you love baths, High On Love’s bath oil is going to rock your world. Baths are great for getting into your body, because of their sensual and relaxing nature. I always recommend a nice, hot bubble bath as a form of self-seduction before solo or partnered sex. Being enveloped in hot water is a natural relaxant for the muscles and mind.

This bath oil made me feel like I was floating on a cloud of love and happiness. It is so relaxing. It’s basically like taking a Xanax without all the side effects of pills. Afterwards, you’ll feel very in the mood for some erotic touch.
