Asymmetric Bondage

Asymmetric bondage is a general term for any bondage technique in which an individual is restrained in an asymmetrical pose or position.

Asymmetric bondage is commonly seen in many forms of the Japanese rope bondage-style known as Shibari. Kataashi Tsuri, where just one leg is suspended, is one of Shibari's most popular asymmetric bondage formations.

More About Asymmetric Bondage

The dominant partner’s imagination only limits the wide variety of asymmetric bondage formations. For example, a person could be asymmetrically bonded with one leg bent up and the other extended straight. A standard version of this sees the restrained person standing on one foot while their leg is bound from the ankle to the thigh.

Asymmetric bondage confuses the submissive's image of their body, interrupting its sense of balance. It can be quite disorientating for the restrained individual. These factors tend to increase psychological impact, making asymmetric bondage arousing to some.

It’s important to note that asymmetric bondage, as with all sexual bondage practices, should be a consensual sexual act in which all parties participate willingly. Asymmetric bondage positions should not restrict the bound person's breathing, and their position should be changed at least once an hour to avoid circulation concerns. The bound person should never be left alone, and a safeword should be employed to ensure the activity is enjoyable for all parties.
