Certified Sexuality Educator

A certified sexuality educator is someone who has met the stringent criteria for certification by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. The criteria include education requirements, training hours, and field related experience. AASECT the only recognized governing body for nationally recognized certication as a sexuality educator.

In addition to the criteria that educators must meet to earn AASECT certification, there are certain benign factors that can preclude an educator from becoming certified. The result of this is that many practicing sexuality educators are not recoginized by AASECT. While AASECT certification is a mark of a qualified educator, it is important to note that the lack of that certification does not indicate a lack of qualifiactions.
