Cisgender

Cisgender is a gender studies term used to refer to people whose gender identity aligns with the gender assigned to them at birth. It describes people who do not identify as transgender.

Cisgender is a relatively new term in gender studies, as scholars and activists tried to find a way to speak about non-transgender individuals without resorting to terms such as "normal" or "gender normative," both of which imply that transgender is either abnormal or non-normative.

More About Cisgender

The latin prefix "cis" means "on this side of," while the prefix "trans" means "on the other side of." The use of the term cisgender reduces the stigma attached to being trans; instead of calling cisgendered people normal and implying that trans people are abnormal in some way, cisgender simply describes a state that is not superior or in opposition to transgender identity.
