Coming out is a figure of speech that refers to a gay, lesbian, or transgender individual’s self-disclosure of their sexual orientation. Coming out is often a daunting experience because of the intolerance and stigmas associated with the LGBT community. This experience can have repercussions on the individual’s self-esteem and social relationships. By coming out, the person is also exposed to being ostracized.
