A gender outlaw refers to an individual that defies traditional gender roles by exhibiting behavior that are atypical of the individual's social gender. This includes any individual that refuses to be defined by the traditional or conventional definitions of male and female or man and woman.
More About Gender Outlaw
The term gender outlaw was coined by Kate Bornstein in her book Gender Outlaw. It was released in 1995. The book investigates gender and how we think about gender as a society, gender roles, and gender identity. Gender outlaws might also be referred to as gender non-conforming individuals or those that choose not to be defined by conventional gender standards.
