Hostess Club

A hostess club is a night-time entertainment venue in Japan and other Asian countries. It is made up of women who entertain their male guests with drinks, attention, and flirtation. These women are said to be modern day equivalents of the geishas of old Japan. Recently, there is a rise in the male equivalent of hostess clubs, aptly called host clubs.

A hostess club should be differentiated from sex clubs and strip clubs. Respectful behavior is expected in hostess clubs. There should be no sex, solicitation, or nudity involved. However, some men abuse their customer status. These men subject women to sexual abuse. Some also proposition women into having sex with them after work. There is pressure on women to agree, in exchange for the men's patronage.
