Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder

Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is characterized by a persistent genital arousal or genital engorgement that occurs with or without orgasm. Symptoms include genital engorgement for extended periods of time and spontaneous orgasms. The syndrome is generally used to describe the symptoms in women. The term priapism is used as the male counterpart. Since the arousal is unrelated to sexual desire or arousal, the syndrome differs from nymphomania or hyper sexuality. For many who experience the symptoms of the disorder, it can be very painful with only mild relief through orgasm.
