Modern sex furniture stocks are modelled on the traditional medieval stocks that were used for punishment. The piece typically consists of two pieces of wood with semi-circles on either side, which when placed together, form the wholes in which the arms and head are placed. The two hinged pieces can be locked when closed to secure the individual in the device.
