A transgender woman refers to an individual that was born with the biological characteristics of a man, but whose gender identity aligns with that of a woman. The term is generally used to refer to all individuals that have a misalignment between their biological sex and gender identity, where their gender identity is that of a woman. The term is not synonymous with transsexual although it is often used in that way.
