Venereal diseases (VD) are more commonly referred to as sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or sexually transmitted infections (STI). These are any illnesses or infections that are highly likely to be passed on via sexual contact. Many of these illnesses and infections can also travel between people who share IV drug needles. Contact with open wounds, childbirth, and breastfeeding are also ways to pass along VD.
