On a whim, I started modeling nude for a dear friend. Then, I picked out a pseudonym to ensure privacy (this can be very important depending on the type of day job that you have). Once I had good images to work with, I created a website as well as a profile on Model Mayhem, a site that connects models with photographers. Word of mouth is the best way to find gigs, though. If a friend recommends a respectable photographer who pays well, ask for an introduction.
Always play it safe. Be selective and make firm boundaries! If there’s a pose you’re not comfortable doing, don’t do it. If the shoot calls for bondage and you’ve never worked with the photographer, invite a friend to come along. Give your significant other or roommate the name, phone number, and address of the photographer you're working with.
When you’re just starting out, you will want to do some TFP (time for prints) shoots, where no money is exchanged between model and photographer. This helps build up your portfolio. When you have a good portfolio, you can book better gigs, and you make more money. I’ve made anywhere from $50 to $1,000 per shoot.
Also, check out alternative modeling sites like Zivity and Gods Girls. Gods Girls pays $60 for a DIY set. They allow you to submit four sets a month. That’s $240 a month. On Zivity, site members vote. Each vote is worth $1 (55% to the model and 30% to the photographer). So, 1,000 votes comes out to $550.
Burlesque Performer
Interested in the art of striptease? As a beginner, you’ll want a teacher to show you the ropes.
I hear The New York School of Burlesque is a good place to start. It’s only $15 for a one hour class. Plus, you’ll make some great connections, which can lead to future gigs. Once you have a foundation, you can learn the rest on your own by studying legends like Dita Von Teese and practicing in the mirror.
You can spend anywhere from $50 to $500 on making and buying costumes, which can be used many times. Are you crafty? Many dancers have made quite a bit of money sewing costumes for other performers.
Gigli Puff said, “I made $40 a gig...not bad for four minutes of performing.” Pandora said, “The best way to get well paying gigs is to reach out to event planners since they are usually the ones booking entertainment.” She recommends creating a profile on Gigsalad.

As in any other line of work, networking is key. That’s how you’ll find out about a private foot worship party happening at a swanky loft on Wall Street next month.
If you like making $100 to $300 dollars in an evening in exchange for foot rubs, this may be the gig for you. Usually, you get paid $20 plus tips for a 10-minute session per client. If you like to produce events and have a strong network, consider throwing your own foot worship event in a private space where you can charge a cover and make cash off the bar sales in addition to seeing clients.
Webcam Performer
If you have a laptop with a webcam, that’s all you need to get started as a webcam performer.Asha Lo has been sexy camming for four years now. When she realized she was making more money performing on camera than at her retail job, she invested in better equipment. She ordered a simple light setup from Amazon, two stands with umbrellas, and light bulbs for $20. One of her fans bought her a Logitech HD camera.
She makes her own schedule and spends between two to four hours a night, around twenty hours a week, in front of the camera. The models who invest more time off camera working their social media make more money. Interacting with fans on Twitter goes a long way. The earning potential is incredibly high with some performers earning up to $40,000 a month.
Before you decide to start, Asha Lo suggests you research the different sites and see what they have to offer regarding pay percentages, content, and style. “Some sites try to keep it super classy where others have a more anything goes attitude,” she stated. Then, if you decide to try it, set boundaries, have a good support system, don’t let anyone talk you into doing anything for free, and keep your personal information private.
GoGo Dancer
While a professional dance background is not mandatory, you must have rhythm to GoGo. Jennifer Dobrydnia, a Philadelphia based GoGo and hoop dancer, told me, “The goal is to create a visual to the music, using free-style dance to hype up the crowd...the crowd came for the music and you are the 'bells and whistles' of the event.”
In addition to having confidence, stamina, good posture, and a big smile, you must have the right gear. Requirements vary, but usually you’ll need to provide either platform or stiletto boots in black and white, professional dance fishnets, fake eyelashes, and makeup. Research venues, events, and entertainment companies that hire GoGo dancers. If you’re at an event, ask a dancer who to speak to about bookings.
You’ll need to audition either in person or online. Dobrydnia shared, “The more professionally you represent yourself, the more likely you are to get noticed!” Be prepared to present photos, demo videos, measurements, references, and a resume. A good press kit is key.
Pay can vary depending on duration of the event, travel, types of costumes and props, and booking fees. Festivals vary greatly, but a typical resident or club gig is usually three to four hours and pays $100 to $150. Cities with an emphasis on nightlife and casinos pay between $150 and $200 or more.
