The Seesaw position bends the receiving partner in half to offer ultra-deep penetration with targeted g-spot and p-spot pleasure.
To get into this sex position, the receiving partner lays on their back. They fold their body, pulling their ankles overhead. Once there, the penetrating partner kneels right where the receiving partner's butt used to be laying on the floor, and crawls in close until the receiver's lifted butt and low back are pressing up against the front of the penetrating partner's thighs.
We recommend achieving penetration right here while the receiving partner is still supporting most of their weight in the Plow position. Once penetration is achieved, the receiving partner should relax their Plow position, resting more of their lower body weight against the penetrating partner, pushing back onto the penetrating partner for support.
This sex position will press the receiver's upper back firmly into the surface beneath you both. If exploring the Seesaw position on the floor, we recommend a padded surface.
More About Seesaw Sex Position
The folded position of the Seesaw position makes deep penetration fantasies come to life. With the surrounding tissue pressing down on the vaginal or anal canal, everything will feel tighter and deeper, offering new sensations for both partners. As an added bonus, this angle will probably make the g-spot or p-spot easier to hit without any additional effort on either lover's part!
Enjoying those benefits is all about knowing the position though. The Seesaw position is all about angles and counterweights. Once in the position, the receiver's lower body weight should be pressing onto the penetrating partner's hips to make this position sustainable. At the same time, the penetrating partner's hands, placed right above the receiver's shoulders, should "trap" the receiver in place, making it difficult for the couple to scoot forwards along the surface they're playing on.
Even with those hands, though, the Seesaw position isn't a sex position for huge thrusts. Maintaining those counterbalances requires both of your bodies to stay in close contact, and attempting to pull out for a full thrust will likely disrupt some of those angles. Instead, expect small thrusts and grinding motions from the Seesaw position. Those short, close thrusts make vibrating cock rings a great fit for this position because the toy will be in constant contact with both partners.
Staying Safe in the Seesaw Sex Position
This position has the potential to cause back and neck injury if not done correctly! This position places a lot of strain on the entirety of the back and on the neck, and you never want to mess around with back or neck injuries.
Despite how simple it looks, the Seesaw sex position is not a position for most receivers. The extreme angle required from the receiver is unlike anything else most of us do on a daily basis; it's a deep stretch of the back and places a lot of weight on the upper back and neck. If flexibility training isn't part of your regular workout regiment, we'd recommend approaching the Seesaw position with a lot of caution.
When pleasure is the main event, it can be easy to forget to check-in with your body until you're coming out of the position. Frequent check-ins with the receiver are a must when in this position. The receiving partner should also take mental breaks during sex to check-in with their own body.
The penetrating partner can help reduce some of that strain by staying ultra-conscious of their own body positioning. Especially as the penetrating partner falls into the delicious sensations of sex, it can be tempting to relax their arms, placing more weight onto the receiver's thighs. Consequently, this deepens the stretch for the receiving partner, and it drastically increases the strain on their neck and back. Make sure the penetrating partner is actively supporting their own upper body weight, pushing through their arms to provide as much space between their own nipples and the receiver's thighs as possible.
Because of the importance of reducing the weight on the receiver's extended legs, approach the Seesaw position with extreme caution if the penetrating partner is much larger than the receiver or has a thick stomach. This can, unintentionally, place extra weight on top of the receiving partner, deepening the stretch even if the penetrating partner is doing everything correctly. Get into this position slowly, and ensure you both communicate throughout the entirety of the position.
Modifying the Seesaw Sex Position
Unlike straddled positions, which can keep the spine in a moderately neutral position, the angle of the Seesaw requires the receiver's back to curl upwards, high enough that penetration can happen from the partner's kneeling position. Even for people with flexible backs who have stretched, this can be a difficult, strenuous position.
There are a few ways to help the receiving partner modify the Seesaw position, but even these modifications will still require placing strain on the back. Ensure the receiver is confident about their ability to bend into this position before attempting any of these modifications:
Stretch ahead of time
The worst thing you can do is attempt the Seesaw position on a back that isn't sufficiently warmed up. Ensure your body is warm and preferably do some active stretching of the back before attempting the Seesaw position. At a minimum, do some Cat/Cow movements ahead of time.
Really lean into the penetrating partner's body
The penetrating partner's thighs are there to act as a "shelf." The receiving partner should take advantage of that "shelf," resting the majority of their weight up against the penetrating partner's thighs to hold themselves in the air.
Have the receiver place their hands underneath their own hips
The receiver can use the back of the upper arms and their hands like a "platter" to place the butt on. In yoga, you'll see this called a shoulderstand or a candle pose. This can help support the weight of the butt in the air, reducing how much strain it places on the back.
Use a sex wedge
In most cases, sex furniture can help you achieve these complicated positions with a bit more comfort. But you might find that there isn't enough space between bodies to make a wedge work in the Seesaw position. Still, if you have one handy, it can be worth giving it a try.
Spend less time in the Seesaw position
Even for people who can achieve the Seesaw position, the position can become strenuous on the back relatively quickly. Don't think of this sex position as a position you stay in. Instead, think of it as a pitstop throughout your sex position journey. Plan for another sex position afterwards if you think you'd like more time for sex.
Even with these modifications, because of its intense back involvement, the Seesaw position is not for the faint of back. People with back concerns should avoid the Seesaw position entirely. If you like the premise of the Seesaw position, less intense versions of the position include the Bandoleer, Hero, and Tuck Knee position. Those alternatives can offer some of the face-to-face, intimate feel of the Seesaw position with less strain on the back and neck.
However, even swapping to alternative sex positions may not be a viable fit for some.
Remember: sex is about having a great time and connecting with your partner. If your sex position gets in the way of that, simply swap to a new one! There are hundreds of other sex positions out there that can better honor the bodies you're in today.
