Kinkly: Give us three words that describe your blog.
Easily Aroused (EA): Erotic. Sensual. Decadent.
Kinkly: What inspired you to start the blog?
EA: More than a decade ago, I kept a handwritten journal, which focused upon the desires and frustrations of a man married to a woman who was far less interested in sex than he was. I also used to write about some of my own fantasies. I hoped that sharing my journal with my wife would lead to a constructive, two-way dialogue between us, and that she might even find reading it an arousing experience. For various reasons, sharing the journal with her never achieved what I'd hoped. Ironically, it resulted in me feeling even more frustrated because now I had writing that I felt was of a decent quality, but which I couldn't share with anyone. Then I found Indecent Blogging, a web-hosting site catering for writers of adult material, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Kinkly: What’s behind the name?
EA: On one occasion, after reading my journal, my wife accused me of being capable of getting a hard-on "in the blink of an eye." Clearly, I was a man who was easily aroused. I decided that I'd appropriate the accusation for my blog. Some readers have since asked me if the title means that I'm unfussy when it comes to satisfying my sexual desires. Ironically, it's quite the opposite: I'm rather fussy about who and what turn me on. Yet, after 10 years of being Easily Aroused, it's a bit late to change monikers now.
Kinkly: Who’s your target reader?
EA: The site's tagline is "Sensual erotica written for discerning women." I think that designates my target audience perfectly.
Kinkly: What’s unique about your blog?
EA: I'm not sure that there's anything unique about it except, perhaps, for its longevity. I tend to focus on the act of sex, but I endeavor to write about it in a sensual way that evokes all of a reader's senses. I also try to ground my protagonists in realism. There's not a great deal of perfect fantasy going on with my characters. They all carry doubts. They're all plagued by the realization that life is complicated, and anything but perfect. That said, I'm fully aware that there are lots of people out there who write extremely well about sex, a good many of whom are men. Mine is merely one voice among many. However, from the feedback I've received during the last 10 years, it's a voice that sits well with a section of the female populace. I hope that continues to be the case for as long as I continue to be EA.
Kinkly: What is the topic you find yourself covering most often and why?
EA: Given that I write erotic fiction from the perspective of a married man, a good many of my stories revolve around the phenomenon of an affair. That's possibly my most frequent topic. As a result, hotels tend to feature quite a lot in my work (I also happen to love hotels). Beyond that, my writing covers a variety of flavors: vanilla man/woman encounters, threesomes, group sex, female bisexuality, BDSM, indoors, and outdoors. I also write from male and female viewpoints, as well as in the first, second, and third person. I try to keep things varied for my regular readers, and intriguing for those who dip in and out.
Kinkly: What was your most popular post ever? Why do you think it drew so many readers?
EA: I'm not much of a stats hound, so I can't say which has been the most popular in terms of actual visits, or even comments made. In terms of requests for reposts, it's a story called 'The Lure of Darkness' which, not to put too fine of a point on it, was all about anal sex. I don't know why it proved so popular. Clearly, it's an aspect of sex that appeals to some women. Perhaps it was the way that I captured that particular desire. It was a rather intense piece.
Kinkly: What’s the best thing about writing a sex blog?
EA: Having the opportunity to provide a voice on sex that some women enjoy listening to, that speaks to their desires or stirs their memories, and that, sometimes, provides them with moments of inspiration. I consider all of those things to be a privilege. Also, when something you've written is commented upon favourably ... well, what writer doesn't find that satisfying?
Kinkly: What’s the worst thing about it?
EA: The fear that I'm drying up, that I'm saying the same old things in the same old ways. Also, being something of a regular on the block, there's sometimes a feeling of obligation to produce something new, something that will excite my readers more than the last thing I wrote. Writing about sex draws me away from writing about not-sex. Like so many, I still have ambitions to write something longer, something outside of the erotica genre, but I have a finite amount of time and energy to give to writing. Until now, the erotica has won out.
Kinkly: OK, now for the good stuff: Give us your best tip for great sex.
EA: Find a lover whose sexual mind excites you as much as, if not more than, their body. Any sex with such a person is likely to blow your mind.
