There are two common definitions associated with cyclic monogamy. The first describes a person who has multiple partners, but sees each person exclusively for the time that they are with that person. Although there are multiple relationships, for the duration of each time the individual spends with a partner, they are only sexually involved with one partner.
The second definition refers to a situation where a man or woman travels often for business and has multiple partners in different cities with the partners believing that the relationships are monogamous. Often, the partners are unaware of the existence of others, although this is not always the case.
