A demigirl is someone who partially or half identifies as a woman, feminine, or a girl. Most demigirls are assigned female at birth but demigirls assigned male at birth may feel a strong connection to being a woman, but perhaps not so much so that they identify as transgender. A demigirl may also identify with another gender in addition to feeling partially like a girl.
The origins of the term demigirl are unknown, but the term - along with "demiguy" - was added to the AVEN Gender Definitions Masterlist in December 2010.
A demigirl may also be referred to a demiwoman, demifemale or demilady.
More About Demigirl
The term demigirl should not be confused with demisexuality, which is a sexual orientation rather than a gender identity. Demigirls tend to fall outside the gender binary, which includes other identities like agender or genderqueer.
Although identifying as a demigirl isn't common, there is a strong online community of demigirls and supporters. The demigirl symbol, which is the female symbol with one half of the extending cross removed, was designed by a group of non-binary Brazilians and 2014. There is also a demigirl flag, which includes gray, white and pink stripes.
