A polyromantic is a person who is romantically attracted to several, but not all, genders. They acknowledge that there are more than two genders. They enjoy a spectrum of romantic possibilities while remaining aware of their own individual preferences and limitations. A polyromantic is often compared to a panromantic, or someone who is attracted to all genders.
The difference between a polyromantic and a panromantic may just be with the use of “many” and “all.” Panromanticism has been criticized for its inclusiveness, even when an individual is naturally limited by their experiences and exposure to the may forms of gender in differing cultures. “All” is technically impossible. Of course, regardless of how a person identifies, be it as a polyromantic or as a panromantic, they should be treated with respect and understanding.
