Vinyl Rubber

Vinyl rubber is a soft and flexible material that is commonly used to manufacture sex toys. This material often has a vinyl acetate to ethylene ratio of 10% to 40% respectively. Extremely resistant to wear and tear, vinyl rubber also has the added advantage of being easy to clean and disinfect. Most vinyl rubber sex toys are also waterproof. Other than sex toys, this material is also used in electrical appliances.

In most cases, vinyl rubber is naturally derived from the milky emulsion in plants. It is also synthetically produced.

More About Vinyl Rubber

A vinyl rubber dildo can very easily last for life if properly cared for and maintained. Unlike latex rubber, this material does not tear easily and can be safely used during sex play with very little risk of fingernail tears. On the other hand, vinyl rubber is generally considered inferior to other materials such as silicone. This is mainly due to the pungent chemical flavor and odor that it emits. That can be problematic for some people.

Vinyl rubber has also been shown to contain phthalates which is a type of chemical that can, in certain cases, have a toxic effect on the overall health of an individual. This is why it is often recommended to protect a vinyl rubber toy with a condom prior to vaginal or anal insertion. Adult products made from this material have also been shown to contain latex. This can trigger an allergic reaction in some people.

As far as cleaning is concerned, vinyl rubber only requires a wipe down with soap and warm water. Anal sex toys, however, require additional substances like antibacterial sex toy cleaners to completely disinfect the vinyl rubber surface. In fact, since this material is porous and can consequently harbor bacteria, health experts often recommend to boil your vinyl rubber toys after use.

Vinyl rubber can be used with silicone and water-based lubricant.
